After the huge excitement surrounding the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and it’s recognition at the major film awards, comes the news that Queen and Adam Lambert will perform at this years Academy Awards.

The band will be joining previously announced performers Jennifer Hudson, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga and Bette Midler.

The Academy has announced we can expect a performance by the band to celebrate Bohemian Rhapsody’s nomination for best picture.

The news was announced on Twitter on Monday.

Lambert, who has stepped into Freddie Mercury’s shoes as lead singer, first played with original members Brian May and Roger Taylor while he was competing on American Idol in 2009 and began touring with the band in 2012.

Bohemian Rhapsody has earned five Oscar nominations, including best picture, best actor (Rami Malek), best sound editing, best sound mixing and best film editing.

Queen will join previously announced performers Jennifer Hudson, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga and Bette Midler, who will all perform songs nominated in the best original song category.
