These cards are amazing!

A cancer survivor has designed the “empathy cards” she wishes she’d received when she was sick.

LA-based Emily McDowell, who battled Stage 3 Hodgkins lymphoma at the age of 24, created the line of cards as a more realistic way of expressing condolences or solidarity for serious illnesses.

“I believe we need some better, more authentic ways to communicate about sickness and suffering,” she wrote on her website.

“‘Get well soon’ cards don’t make sense when someone might not.”

Emily is now 38 and cancer-free, calling herself “incredibly fortunate”.

She hopes her empathy cards will help people find the words they’re searching for when offering support to sick loved ones.
