Melbourne’s recent unseasonably warm and dry weather is coming to a dramatic end with a series of cold fronts bringing rain and gusty winds.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Tom Delamotte said Melbourne could expect showers of between 1-3 millimetres through Friday and a possible thunderstorm bringing isolated gusts of up to 80km/h.
The colder air is expected to move in from Sunday.
Winds as strong as 74km/h hit Melbourne’s north on Thursday night, with State Emergency Crews called to 13 jobs, nine of them for fallen trees.
