Australia has slipped to 44th place on the global rankings list for internet speeds.

The latest Akamai Technologies State of the Internet report stated Australia has a Global Average Internet speed of 6.9Mbps which is around 3.5 times slower than South Korea which came in at number one.

It was also the first time that Australia has slipped behind New Zealand which climbed up to 42nd slot.

The study reviewed over 9 million Australian internet connections.

Industry experts are tipping Australia will continue to languish even further in the coming years given the current government’s downgrading of The National Broadband Network which had promised to deliver download speeds of up to 100Mbps.
