Jesse Hogan’s Cancer Scare Hits Home For Jarryd Roughead
Our mate Jarryd “Roughy” Roughead joined Jo & Lehmo in studio & opened up about Jesse Hogan’s cancer battle.
Hogan was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent surgery to successfully remove the lump he discovered while in the shower.
“Obviously Jesse has had a pretty tough run of late with the passing of his father, so to get news like that… You don’t wish that upon anyone. So it’s pretty flattening for the whole footy community because you want to see these players out on the ground; you don’t want to see them having to go through stuff like this.” Roughy said.
This is something that hits close to home for Roughy, having faced a cancer scare of his own. In July 2015, he had surgery to remove a melanoma from his lip and returned to the field. But it didn’t end there.
When Hogan’s condition was announced this week, it was exactly 12 months to the day since Roughy found out about his cancer had returned and spread to his lungs.
Now officially living cancer-free, Roughy can empathise with the position that Hogan is now in.
“There’s just that ‘what if’ factor before you have the surgery” he said.
We spoke to Roughy about that and more, including the Hawks injury list and inclusion in sport. Check out the full chat below.
