One Year On - Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami

This Sunday, March 11, marks the one year anniversary of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that caused massive destruction and loss of life in Japan. 

The terrifying waves left 19,000 dead and missing and tens of thousands more destitute. 

In addition, the earthquake and tsunami triggered the biggest nuclear crisis since Chernobyl when three reactors at the nearby Fukushima nuclear power plant melted down. 

This fall out sparked mass evacuations, leaving large areas ghost towns to this day. Unlike the immediate impacts of the natural disasters the casualties of the fall out will continue for decades to come. 

Many lost their entire families, become alone and homeless. Still the Japanese of gaman, meaning to endure the unendurable, survives, and will eventually allow those affected to hopefully get back on their feet.  

The clean up and restoration of life in Japan to what it once was is far from over. If you would like to help by donating money to the Global Living Earthquake and Tsunami Relief fund.
