Victorian Government To Swear In First Aboriginal Woman MP
Lidia Thorpe is about to become the first ever Aboriginal Woman MP to be sworn into Victoria's parliament.
This will become the second historic moment for the Greens politician who just ten days ago on November 18 became the first non-Labor leader to win a seat in the inner Melbourne suburb of Northcote in 90 years.
The Gunnai-Gunditjmara woman is the third Greens MP to enter Legislative Assembly and after winning the by-election she said that she was "privileged and honoured" to make history.
Ms Thorpe will be sworn into parliament later today and is set to give her maiden speech on Wednesday.
