Five Dead In 24 Hours As Victoria's Road Carnage Continues

There's been a fatal crash in Wallan overnight. 

A Toyota 4WD careered off Darraweit road at 7:20pm near the intersecton of Pretty Sally Drive and crashed into a creek. 

The 51-year-old driver died at the scene.

The exact circumstances of the collision are still being investigated and police are preparing a report for the coroner.

Traffic was closed in both directions on Darraweit Road between Pretty Sally Drive and Dakota Avenue.

It's the fifth fatality in 24 hours after a 28-year-old man died in Cowes on Phillip Island, a 44-year-old Undera man died after hitting a tree in Merrigum and a five-year-old girl and 70-year-old woman died near Robinvale. 

The incident in Cowes is still under police investigation as the search for the driver who fled the scene while his passenger died.

90 lives have been lost this year, 32 more than the same time in 2018.
