Melbourne Suburb is About To Get A NEW Shopping Precinct
Mernda’s town centre will officially move north to be closer to the train station under new plans that have been approved by the council.
Whittlesea Council has an adjusted to the Town Centre Development Plan, which includes an increase of potential development of up to six storeys in the town centre “core”.
The new plans will see Main Street run east-west from the railway line and allows for more residential properties.
A hardware store plan has been removed from the plans but does now include a supermarket and new retail development from the northeast corner of the site.
Permits for up to 27,500 sqm of retail floor space are available across four blocks.
The new town centre has been proposed since 2009, with original plans approved in 2012.
