This Melbourne Road Has Been Named As The WORST In Australia
A 5KM area of Springvale Road in Glen Waverley has been named the worst for insurance claims in Australia.
The 2017 AAMI Crash Index has shown the area from Highbury Rd to Ferntree Gully Rd is the nation’s worst, while the section in Springvale is the third worst in Melbourne.
This is the fifth year in a row Springvale Road has claimed the crown.
Nunawading highway patrol Sgt Paul Egan said people unfamiliar with driving conditions in Australia were inflating the figure.
“The changing face of Glen Waverley over the past 10 years means there is a higher percentage of new drivers in Australia where there is a different standard to driving from where they come from,’’ he said.
“There are plenty of rear-enders and sideswipes that we don’t even know about that would boost the number of claims for Springvale Rd.”
AAMI spokesman Michael Mills said “Springvale Rd is a multi-lane road used throughout the day by both commuters and local traffic,”
“The high volume of vehicles entering at multiple points, and frequent stopping and starting at the different intersections creates plenty of opportunities for small misjudgements and lapses in concentration, which can lead to a serious collision.’
