There Is An Easter Break Warning For All Victorians

Campers and holiday-makers in Victoria are being warned to take extra precautions over the Easter break.

Hot and dry conditions across Victoria over the Easter break have prompted the Country Fire Authority to warn of the risk of lighting campfires.

"It is understandable to want to have a campfire while camping but if they are not used responsibly, disaster can strike," CFA Chief Officer Gavin Freeman said.

"We're asking all Victorians that go camping to consider whether conditions are safe before lighting up as campfires can get away very quickly."

He also urged residents considering burn-offs on their properties to take care over the holiday period, with fire permits needed for many areas.

"We are concerned that if a fire was to start, it may be difficult to bring under control, so if you don't need a fire outdoors, don't light one," Mr Freeman said.

The warnings come a day after an out-of-control bushfire destroyed a shed near Ballarat and ripped through a pine plantation.

People have been urged to check fire restrictions, be aware of fire danger ratings and monitor weather conditions.
