The Change Coming To Victorian Schools That Could Save Lives
A new water safety program will be mandatory in all Victorian schools, stipulating that students must learn to swim at least 50 metres before they finish school.
Three in five Victorian primary school students can not swim by the time they leave the school. The swimming safety system overhaul is aiming to drastically reduce the amount of fatal drownings in the State.
Education and Emergency Services Minister James Merlino has said that the compulsory lessons will be implemented as early as in the fist semester of 2017.
