Registered Child Sex Offender On The Run In Victoria
Police are on the hunt for a "high risk" registered sex offender who spent time in jail for raping a child and has failed to notify authorities of his whereabouts.
Police on Thursday issued an alert for public help to track down Magot Machol, 27, who is considered dangerous and has not reported to police since being released from jail in September.
He may also be going by the name of Makout Akot.
Machol was seen at a Pakenham shopping centre on Sunday and police received a tip on Wednesday that he may be at Moe in Gippsland.
"He's got violence in his prior convictions and sexual-related offences exacerbated by alcohol and we rate him as a high-risk offender," Superintendent Lauren Callaway told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday.
"He has an obligation to tell us where he lives, the car he drives and any contact he may have with someone under the age of 18."
He did contact police by phone in October, but hasn't been heard from since and is required to make contact in person.
He is described as being about 185cm tall, slim, with dark brown eyes and black hair and a small scar under his left eye.
Anyone who sees Machol, who is also known to frequent Coburg and Footscray, should not approach him and call triple zero immediately.
