Police Searching For Driver After Hit And Run in Melbourne

A man-hunt is currently on for the driver of a dark-coloured BMW after a hit and run left a 13-year-old girl fighting for life in an induced coma in Melbourne.

The teenager was riding her bike along the intersection of Bell and Sussex Streets in Coburg when she was stuck by the vehicle at around 8pm on Sunday.

Authorities have been told that the driver of the dark-grey BMW E87 Series, stopped momentarily before fleeing the scene.

"To leave the scene of an accident when you've got a young girl fighting for life, that's not the Australian way," said Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer.

"There is absolutely no doubt that the person who hit this young girl, the 13-year-old girl, were fully aware that they just hit a 13-year-old girl on a bike."

Police believe that the BMW they are looking for may have received damage to the passenger side, front windscreen, front bumper, external mirror and headlights.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
