Metal Panel Falls 100 Metres From Building In Melbourne
Pedestrians on the streets in Melbourne's CBD have made a miraculous escape as a metal panel fell around 100 metres from a building that had been hit by a crane cable.
The two-metre long aluminium panel fell from the high rise building at around 6:15pm on Wednesday.
Fire crews were called to the building on the corner of Elizabeth and Franklin streets after the building was struck by the cable due to high winds.
Two other panels became lodged as they fell towards the ground and Emergency services shut down the area in order to remove them from the building.
The surrounding roads were opened several hours later. An MFB spokesman said it was lucky no-one was injured.
