Melbourne Suburb Being 'Taken Over' By Homeless
A large group of homeless and drug affected people are believed to have set up a large camp around public toilets in Lilydale.
Since December, the group have turned the area around Melba Park into their home.
The Yarra Valley Leader is reporting that residents have complained to the Yarra Ranges Council twice but nothing has yet been done.
However, Yarra Ranges Social and economic development director James Collins said the council referred the issue to homeless support service Anchor in December.
However, with no resolution happening, Collins went on to say that the people are a a safety issue to themselves or to others, it becomes a police issue.”
Resident Craig Morrison told the newspaper “My grandchildren were too scared to go to the toilet. Nothing is being done about it.’
It is not known if the police have been contacted.
