Melbourne Station Safe But Delays Continue

A suspicious item that sparked the evacuation of a Melbourne train station has been declared safe but commuter delays are set to continue.

Victoria Police evacuated North Melbourne train station after the suspicious item was found just before 8am on Thursday.

Trains were temporarily halted, causing early-morning headaches for commuters on five train lines.

The device was declared safe at about 9.30am but there will be major train delays throughout the morning.

Twenty-minute delays will be experienced on the Craigieburn, Sunbury, Upfield, Werribee and Williamstown lines, a Metro Trains spokesman said.

All other metropolitan train lines will also be affected by delays of up to 10 minutes as many trains and drivers are out of position.
