Fifth Person Charged Following Violent Assault In St Kilda

Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a fifth person following an assault that left two police officers injured in St Kilda on Sunday.

Police were called to Fitzroy Street following a report of an alleged assault about 3am.

While a man was being arrested, several people intervened.

During the course of the arrest, OC spray was deployed and two police officers were injured.

A 26-year-old St Kilda man was arrested in Prahan yesterday afternoon.

He has been charged with two counts of assault police officer, violent disorder, affray, two counts of intentionally cause injury and assault by kicking.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

A 26-year-old St Kilda man (Trent Potts), a 27-year-old Langwarrin man (Jack Houldcroft) and a 38-year-old Frankston man (Phil O'Donnell) will also appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.

A 25-year-old Langwarrin woman, Kayla Potts, appeared in court yesterday.

Potts is a childcare worker and young mother.

The group were reportedly out for a 30th birthday when Trent Potts allegedly got into an altercation, kneeing a woman in the genitals before fleeing police. 

Sickening footage then shows a policeman being violently assaulted by members of the group.
