Chris Dawson ARRESTED Over Cold Case Murder Of Lyn Dawson
Chris Dawson has allegedly been arrested in Queensland over the cold case murder of wife Lynette Dawson.
The cold case has gripped the nation and grew in momentum following the release of the critically-acclaimed podcast, The Teacher's Pet.
Queensland police have confirmed that there has been an arrest on the Gold Coast, and the man will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
Lyn Dawson disappeared without a trace 36 years ago. Her family, two coroners and the current NSW police commissioner think she was killed. Her husband, Chris Dawson, has always been the prime suspect.
"A 70-year-old Coolum man was arrested by detectives from the Queensland Police Service’s Homicide Squad in the presence of Strike Force Scriven investigators at Biggera Waters, on the Gold Coast, in Queensland," NSW police said.
"NSW detectives will apply for his extradition at his first court appearance. Lynette Dawson’s family has been advised of today’s arrest and have requested privacy at this time."
It was additional evidence collected during the investigation period that lead to the arrest. This consisted of primarily witness statements, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said.
"They were predominantly statements from witnesses that helped us to tie pieces of the puzzle is together," he told reporters.
"We have sold homicide before without identifying the body," he continued. "Ideally in this case we will not give up on trying to identify the whereabouts of Lynette Dawson, but from our perspective, it is not crucial to finalising the matter.
"We haven’t given up hope in terms of finding Lynette Dawson’s body."
It was revealed that Chris Dawson went "quietly" with police following his arrest this morning, and that no new evidence was found during the September dig at the Bayview property.
Paul Dawson applied for bail, promising to drive himself to Sydney for the court appearance. However, his bail was immediately denied due to the "seriousness of the alleged crime".
