Bob Hawke Spends Second Night In Hospital

Former Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke has spent a second night in hospital after having a case of the “wobbles” but his family are assuring the public that he is doing fine.

The 88-year-old was admitted to Royal North Shore Hospital for some minor tests late Monday but his private secretary said in a statement that he hoped to be discharged as early as this morning.

After news broke that the former Labor leader had been taken to hospital, Labor MP Chris Bowen said that Mr Hawke’s condition was a “relatively minor incident” in what was being described as a case of “the wobbles”.

A source close to the family said that Mr Hawke’s heath was nothing to be worried about and that the former MP was “fine and anxious to get home and back to his cigar and crosswords”.

Mr Hawke served from 1983-1991 as Australia’s 23rd Prime Minister and led the Labor party to four consecutive election victories.
