Aussie Teen Dies After Losing A Leg In Shark Attack
A family in Western Australia have experienced an absolutely devastating end to their Easter long weekend after losing their daughter to a shark off the coast in Western Australia.
The 17-year-old girl was surfing with her father when she was attacked. It is understood the shark attacked her leg and it was badly mauled.
She had lost a lot of blood when pulled from the water, according to a report by Seven News.
WA Police confirmed on Monday night that the girl had later died.
Police, ambulance and Esperance Marine Rescue treated the girl on the beach before she was taken to Esperance Hospital in a critical condition.
The family were reportedly on a holiday from their home in Mandurah.
Local media reported two sightings of a “medium-sized” great white shark in the area in the week leading up to the fatal attack, coming as close as 150 metres from the shore.
“Our advice to water users is to not undertake surfing, swimming or diving activities in the Wylie Bay area for at least the next 48 hours,” the Department of Fisheries told the West Australian.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the girl’s family during this devastating time.
