Abuser Jailed After 10-Year-Old Girl Rang Kids Helpline
A "brave and resourceful" young Victorian girl rang the Kids Helpline to report the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her grandmother's partner, resulting in him being jailed.
The girl was 10 years old when she made that call, which came five years after the man first molested her in 2011.
The 55-year-old abused her more seriously on another occasion when she was eight, while they were watching TV.
The man, who can't be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to more than five years' jail in the County Court of Victoria on Thursday for his "abhorrent" crimes.
"The offending came to light in 2016 when the victim rang the Kids Helpline," Judge Jane Patrick said.

"The victim is both brave and resourceful."
Judge Patrick said the man's "abhorrent and disgusting" crimes breached the innocent girl's trust.
"Your offending was against a very young child who was a member of your partner's family," she said.
The girl still has nightmares over the incident and is not the same girl she used to be, the court heard.
"It is clear from a diary entry in 2016 that she is still suffering considerable distress," Judge Patrick said.
The victim's mother said in her victim impact statement that she has had several breakdowns over what happened to her daughter.
"She struggles with the feeling that she is unable to protect her daughter from harm," Judge Patrick said.
The offender, who was a rural Victorian taxi driver, pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent acts against a child and one of sexual penetration of a child.
He was ordered to serve at least three years and six months in prison before being eligible for parole.
