6-Month Old Baby Found Locked In Hotel Room Safe

A maintenance worker was called to unlock a hotel room safe after a frantic guest told a cleaning worker that she could hear a baby's continual cries, and the cleaning worker then informed a maintenance worker, who discovered the distraught baby.

The baby's parents, who were on holiday from Brooklyn, New York City were holidaying at the Howard Johnson Hotel By The Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario in Canada and left the hotel before police arrived to the hotel.

According to Niagara Regional Police Service, the baby was "alert and crying" when workers managed to unlock the safe within 20 minutes.

Detective Sergeant Scott Kraushar, of Niagara regional police’s child abuse unit, said that the six month old was too young to crawl into the safe alone.

We are not anticipating charges at the time,” Sgt Kraushar told the New York Daily News.
“But we need to speak to the family to answer questions and ensure the welfare of the infant. There is no information on how the baby ended up locked in the safe.”

Sgt Krausher said the family did not seem to be acting suspicious...

“The family members were acting appropriately to the situation,” he said. “They were quite distressed and sought help from the staff.”

An investigation is ongoing...
