Man Absolutely Smashes Doughnut Eating Challenge in WA
A man has become the second person to complete a West Australian bakery eating challenge, taking just under 10 minutes to eat a 3kg doughnut.
Sven Pelman, 25, travelled to Surfside Bakery in Singleton, south of Perth, from Melbourne and ate the monster doughnut in nine and a half minutes.
He is only the second person to complete the challenge, halving the previous eating time.
About 200 hundred people have attempted the challenge, with one person giving it a go every couple of months.
Mr Pelman cut the doughnut into small pieces to reduce chewing, and dipped pieces into coffee so it was easier to swallow, but said he began to struggle halfway in.
"My stomach was full and my body was trying to reject the food," he said.
He said despite being "really full", he could walk back to his car and carry on with his day as usual.
"When I sat back in the car the food wanted to jump out again, but I think I could have done with a nice cheeseburger afterwards to finish it off."
The bakery employee described the doughnut as "massive", filled with cream, custard, and jam, and sprinkled with chocolate.
"Everyone thinks they can do it," she said.
Mr Pelman, who works as a tyre fitter by day, has previously won two food eating challenges - one by eating 16 cheeseburgers in 30 minutes, and 15 meat pies in 15 minutes.
