Two Shows for Eric's 70th

Eric Clapton has announced his first U.S. concerts of 2015, a pair of shows at New York City's Madison Square Garden May 1 and May 2.

The guitar legend, who turns 70 March 30, will celebrate his milestone birthday at the events.

The concerts will take place more than 46 years after Clapton first performed at the venue; he and his old band Cream helped open the "new" Madison Square Garden when they played there November 2, 1968.

During his career, Eric has performed at the famous arena more than he has at any other venue, a total of 45 times to date.

Tickets to the May shows will go on sale to the public beginning Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. ET.

Clapton's only other confirmed 2015 concerts are a run of seven dates at London's Royal Albert Hall that are scheduled for May 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21 and 23.

Incidentally, Eric said in multiple interviews last year that he was considering retiring from touring once he turned 70, although he hasn't announced any official plans with regard to quitting the road.
