Neil Young's The Monsanto Years

Neil Young has unveiled official details about his upcoming studio album The Monsanto Years, which he recorded with Promise of the Real, the band fronted by Willie Nelson's son Lukas.  The nine-song collection, which focuses on topical environmental and ecological issues such as the sale of genetically modified food, will be released on July 3 in Australia

The Monsanto Years initially will be available as a CD/DVD set and as a standard-resolution and high-res digital download.  A vinyl edition of the record will follow sometime in August.  Those who pre-order the album now will immediately receive digital versions of two songs  "Big Box" and "A Rock Star Bucks a Coffee Shop."  A video for the latter tune currently is viewable at DemocracyNow.org.

Young had performed live with Promise of the Real at several events before recording with the group, which now also includes Nelson's son Micah.  Neil has lined up a U.S. trek with the band dubbed the Rebel Content Tour, which is mapped out from a July 5 show at Milwaukee's Summerest through a July 24 performance at the Wayhome Festival in Oro-Medonte, Canada.  People purchasing tickets to the concerts (not including festival dates) will receive their choice of a free copy of the Monsanto Years CD/DVD package or one of the digital versions of the album.
