Kylie Minogue Plans Tour And Album In 2018

Kylie Minogue is planning to tour Australia after she releases her new album next year, and is making her return to the big screen.

The Australian pop star who lives in London is back home to promote her role in new Australian film Swinging Safari from Priscilla Queen of the Desert director Stephan Elliott.

But she revealed her highly-anticipated 14th studio album, which she has previously said is inspired by her split from ex-fiance Joshua Sasse, will be out very soon.

"I've been working all of this year on the album and it's done and it will be released early next year," Minogue told AAP in Sydney.

She's also confirmed a follow-up stage show is on the cards.

"Yes, I hope to tour late next year and of course I'll come home," Minogue said.

But Minogue has shifted the focus back to her original career as an actress, which started in Neighbours in the 1980s and has continued sporadically over the years in films such as The Delinquents, Street Fighter and Moulin Rouge.

She said she was lured back to the screen by Elliott's quirky, yet familiar, story of growing up in 70s Australia in the upcoming comedy Swinging Safari.

Minogue is part of an ensemble cast alongside Asher Keddie, Radha Mitchell, Guy Pearce, Julian McMahon and Jeremy Sims.

"I read the script a few years ago now and I was laughing out loud in the back of the car reading it in London and I just felt totally homesick. I knew this place that he was talking about and I thought 'I'd love to do this. I don't get to do this very often'. So it was a yes straight away," Minogue told AAP.

"Then the girls came on board and we got three other guys and just an amazing cast ... and a chance to come home and do some acting again."

It's also a reunion for Minogue who is acting alongside her old Neighbours co-star Pearce for the first time since the pair appeared on the soap together nearly 30 years ago.

"It's been a few years it really has, so it's great to reconnect with him," she said.

Pearce, who plays her husband in Swinging Safari, said there had been a long time where the pair didn't even see each other.

"It was 1988 I think when we last worked together," Pearce told AAP.

"In, fact when Kylie and I saw each other at the Cannes film festival two or three years ago, talking about this film, we hadn't seen each other for 17 years."

He says they fell back into an easy rhythm pretty quickly and it's given Minogue the acting bug as she said she hopes to do more onscreen work.
