Barnesy To Chisel Out Two Books

Jimmy Barnes is writing two books on his time as the lead singer of one Australia's most successful rock bands and his life in general.

The first of the two books will be titled Working Class Boy and will be available in hardback and online in October 2016.

Publisher Harper-Collins promises the book will detail Barne's traumatic and violent childhood, which fuelled the excess and recklessness that would define, but almost destroy, the rock `n' roll legend.

It's the third time Barnes has attempted to write his memoirs.

He first started in the early nineties when he was living in France.

"I had thirty thousand words on my laptop, then one night I woke up to the sound of someone outside the house," Barnes said in statement released by Harper-Collins.

"I had interrupted a burglar helping themselves to our belongings. My laptop was gone and the idea of writing my story with it."

The 59-year-old had a second crack the following decade but a battle with drugs made it almost impossible for him to complete his mission truthfully.

"I forgot about writing it again until about 2001, when I was in the midst of severe drug addiction and the book I was writing skirted around everything I needed to write about, Barnes said.

"So I scrapped it again. Around the start of 2015 a few things happened that made me sit down and start writing again.

"It all came rushing out of me and I wrote for most of the year. The result is the story of my early life. No holds barred. The good, the bad and the very ugly."

The Scottish-born Australian rock singer-songwriter is one of the most successful Australian artists of all time when you combine his feats with Cold Chisel with his time as a solo artist.

Cold Chisel co-manager, John Watson said: "No Australian artist has enjoyed more success in this country than Jimmy Barnes. He's had the same number of number one albums as The Beatles, 10 solo chart toppers plus four more with Cold Chisel."

The second of the two books is due to be released in 2017.
